Research and teaching

Research
I am interested in exploiting the uncountable possibilities of GIS and further developing my GIS skills in my research. Amongst others GIS holds the power to visualize complex data in an understandable way, to give quick and clear overviews. Data visualization is one of my main points of interest.

Originally I am geomorphologist with special interest in using GIS as a tool, especially for environmental risk assessment and in geomorphological landscape development, but my field of GIS-applicaitions is constantly growing. Currently I work on the interconnection between environmental factors and the spread of COVID 19. See list of publications.

Teaching
I am teaching GIS with an emphasis on its applications in environmental sciences. I teach with a combination of lectures and practical exercises and projects. In my lectures I emphasize that GIS is the tool to reach your goal - don't be afraid of GIS, explore its possibilities and reach your goal! Another main point in my lectures is the connection between GIS and reality - the important awareness about where your data come from and what they really show. This includes sources of error and of course copyright issues and correct referencing!

The connection between university education and the labour market is of major importance. I make great effort to keep up to date, to keep in touch with alumni and to organize meetings between my students and alumni.

I am responsible for the following courses
  • GIS II Advanced ArcGIS Pro distance course
  • Geografisk informationsbehandling för miljövetare (GIS for environmental scientists)
15 ECTS (running autumn and spring)
I have been lecturing in the following courses
  • Statistik för miljövetare (Statistics for environmental scientists)
  • MKB, miljökonsekvensbeskrivningar (Environmental impact-assessment)
